Version 0.9.0 is not released yet, so there is nothing to download here today. We would rather say that than put up a button that does nothing.
On 14 March the witness met Dr Helena Vance at the clinic on Bridge Street and handed over the file without opening it.
Two passages deleted from the file, not covered. Endpaper reopened what it saved, searched the page text, the metadata, the annotations and the compressed streams, and found no trace of either.
What Endpaper is for
Disclosure sets. Case bundles. Board packets. Client files. The documents where uploading to a web tool is not a preference you get to make, because a policy, a client agreement or a regulator already made it for you.
Nothing leaves your machine
No sign-in, no sync, no document sent anywhere. Under Help, What leaves this machine reads the live state of every subject as you look at it, including the PDF engine's own telemetry, which Endpaper switches off at startup.
Redaction that deletes
Words come out of the file instead of getting a black box drawn over them. Endpaper then reopens the saved file, inflates the compressed streams and reports what it found and what it could not read.
Bates numbering across a folder
One run over a whole disclosure folder. The sequence carries from file to file, and the run reports the first and last number it used.
Bundles instead of merges
A contents page at the front where every row is a working link, a bookmark for each document, and a list of what went in written beside the file.
Scriptable without a second product
endpaper.exe runs the same code the menus call, so a scheduled task does the
nightly numbering with nobody sitting in front of it.
It says so when it fails
Compression that makes a file bigger tells you to keep the original. A signature that will not verify has its output deleted rather than handed back looking finished.
How a disclosure set gets built
- Make the scans searchable. Text recognition runs on the Windows engine already on your computer. The picture of the page is untouched.
- Take out what must not go out. Redact by word or by pattern, then read the verification report before anything leaves your desk.
- Number the set. Bates numbering runs across the folder in one continuous sequence and tells you the range it used.
- Bind it. Build the bundle with a linked contents page, then hand over one file that opens where the other side expects it to.
No adverts, no nagging, no watermark
The free tier is a working tool, not a trailer for the paid one: no sign-in wall, no trial countdown, and nothing stamped on anything you save. There is no telemetry to switch off, because there is none.

What Endpaper will not do
It does not convert PDF to Word, Excel or PowerPoint in either direction. It does not reflow a paragraph when you edit text. It replaces words in place and says so first. It does not edit images already on the page, it does not crop, and it issues no accessibility verdict. If you need those, buy Acrobat. We would rather tell you now than take your money.
Beta, and we mean the word
0.9.0 is feature complete and has not been through a public release. We are handing it to a small number of people who work with documents like these daily, because the defects worth finding are found by somebody doing real work. Write to us if that is you.
